Hampshire Gundog Society was formed on 8th October 1944. Originally, only two shows were run each year with no events for working dogs.
Since then we have moved on. We still run two shows as well as many working events. Open and Novice Field Trials for Retrievers, Spaniels and the HPR breeds are held together with Working Tests. Our Training Classe have, at present, a predominance of Retrievers attending.
Each year, at the AGM, the Society awards the Collyers Trophy for the most points gained by a member's dog at Field Trials during the season. The Sharland Trophy is awarded to the member's dog gaining most points from Field Trials, Working Tests and Shows. Competition for these trophies is open to all members of HGS. Awards won should be sent to Mrs Venturi Rose, who collates the results.
Two further trophies, the Rillons Progress Shield and the Hudson Memorial Trophy, are presented at the AGM. These are awarded by the trainers at the training classes for best overall progress and working in water.
