Held at Herriard
Judges: Mr M Shefford and Mr Wesley
This year’s trial was held at Herriard estate by kind permission of Mr Graham Wood, this is new land for Hampshire and along with a new FTS, torrential rain and 50 mph winds it was a tough trail. However with our experienced judges Mr Mike Shefford’s and Mr Wesley Thomas’ calm approach along with the steward of the beat, Mike Maynard’s patience we did get a result after a very long day.
The trial ground is a mixture: predominantly woodland, with bracken and bramble.
We were joined by Hilary Gould from the Kennel Club, who works tirelessly for our sport and is always at the end of a telephone for new FTS as well as Paul Carpenter; a show judge. [Clearly visible dressed in blue!]
The eventual winner was Sally Jenkins’ dog Rytex Roners, which made the dog up to a field trial champion. Sally Jenkins win was even more remarkable as she is the first lady to make up both a retriever and spaniel to a field trial champion.
The club was donated a shield by Clive Smith’s widow Pam, for the Best Hunting Spaniel. Clive or ‘Smithy’ as we knew him, died last year. Sally wiped up by being the first recipient of this new award.
My final thanks must go to Skinners, where would we be without their support!
