The trial was held at Hamptworth on the first day of the pheasant season. The judges for the day were Dai Lloyd [who had just judged the Cocker Championships in January at Sandringham Estate], and Gareth Davies.
The trial started in a strip of cover crop and the gallery saw 30 pheasants flush, both Anita Jones’ Episcopi Ego and Jenny Weston’s Jeffiners Gin Daisy were steady and survived. We then dropped down in to a dry river bed which again held the birds wonderfully. However the casualties started to mount, and slowly we started losing dogs, all making silly mistakes that you often see at the start of the season. However we saw some great hunting from Misslechalk Fudge handled by Tony Brown, who survived and came second to Richard Preest’s Wonder of Wiltshire at Centrewalk. Only three dogs finished the day and the trial was over in record quick time.
